Faculty
There are twenty-six members of the full-time faculty at Virginia Seminary. While representing a spectrum of theological views within the purview of classical Christian faith and tradition, the faculty enjoys a high level of collegiality and congeniality. All are committed to the Christian faith, to the Church, to the vocation of theological education, and to fostering the spiritual and intellectual growth of students. All faculty are also committed to the heritage and purpose of the Seminary as those are articulated in the Seminary catalogue – excellence in teaching, both the evangelical and catholic heritage of the Seminary, and openness and freedom in intellectual inquiry. Of the seventeen full-time teaching faculty, fourteen have earned doctorates and two are in doctoral programs. Their doctoral degrees are from Yale, Emory, Princeton, Union, Harvard, Toronto, Florida State, Vanderbilt, the University of Rochester and the University of Washington. The faculty includes seventeen men and nine women. While clearly maintaining its Episcopal identity with twenty-three Episcopalians, the faculty also includes two Presbyterians and one Lutheran. Nineteen faculty members are ordained, some with considerable parish experience, and seven are lay persons. Two are originally from outside the United States and six others have served overseas for extended periods.

Seven academic departments have two or more members. In addition, the Seminary draws upon twenty or more adjunct instructors during a normal academic year, utilizing the special expertise of others in the area, especially in the areas of pastoral theology and liturgics.
